The marathon starts in Petrozavodsk, one of most beautiful Russia`s cities and the capital of the autonomous region of Karelia (there will be provided accomodation and opportunity to hand over your staff along the route and after finish). Set off the city in a group towards Murmanskoye highway (between St-Petersburg and Murmansk), however with moderate traffic within Karelia. By the settlement of Girvas cyclists will turn backwards along late Murmanskoye highway, here you should expect quite hilly and scenic road with thin traffic. Some distance short of Petrozavodsk there is a turn to another calm Karelian highway along picturesque beaches of lake Syamozero (checkpoint on one of them). Just having passed the checkpoint in Essoila one need to turn, pavement here will become a bit worse, however it won`t be for longer than 15 km. The road after a large settement of Kroshnozero will turn better, having a rest at a lake shore (in Mandera), you are expected to ride along a "royal" section of highway newly built to european standards. This highway ends up by the "Memorial of sorrow". This site is called "Death Valley" as during the war between USSR and Finland here perished a large number of Russian and Finnish soldiers. The road a little bit ahead enters the lake Ladoga shore. Here starts very scenic yet very hilly road that goes from time to time along the lake shore. In a settlement of Lyaskelya there is a man-made waterfall (checkpoint in a motel). In Sortavala you will see a mixture of Russian, Finnish and Karelian cultures. Hills after Sortavala will become especially steep and closely spaced. In a small village of Ihala turn backwards, now you will have to go along Ladoga up to Saint-Petersburg. Hills after Pitkyaranta will somewhat fall, near the settlement of Vidlitsa there is a checkpoint on the Ladoga shore. The route after Olonets will again join Murmanskoye highway. Having passed river Svir, visit Lodeynoe Pole (hotel). The same Murmanskoye highway further goes across lowlands south to Ladoga up to Saint-Petersburg, little by little it becomes better and wider.Only 50 km after Lodeynoe Pole within the last 220 km are, perhaps, unpleasant.

    You are welcome!!!
